What I’m Reading…

In order to satisfy my interest in learning more about taking great pictures (I got a Nikon D60 in the spring), I just received Understanding Exposure:  How to Shoot Great Photographs with a Film or Digital Camera by Bryan Peterson.  I got it because it had great reviews on Amazon and they said it would break it down very easily for someone who wasn’t an expert, but didn’t necessarily need a “Photography for Dummies” book.  Maybe I can chronicle if it actually helps my shooting skills =)

Yes…I tried to extend my reading of Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer as long as possible (I figured I probably would finish it in 2 days at the rate I was going at) since I probably will go into withdrawal trying to wait for the New Moon movie in November.  However, I couldn’t resist and finished it.  I loved it!!!  Amazing!  A very nice guilty pleasure for summer.

I’m officially addicted to the Twilight series.  So many of my friends had suggested I read it and that I would love it a while back.  However, reading fiction has always been a difficult thing for me…especially with 2 kids.  After watching the movie late one night, I immediately purchased the book Twilight by Stephenie Meyer.  I went through the first book in 3 days.  I went through New Moon in 4 days.  I’m almost done with Eclipse right now…can we say addicted?

encyclopedia

Toggling between “White Hot” and the “Encyclopedia of Healing Foods” by Michael T. Murray.  The “Encyclopedia”…is awesome!  Goes through all the natural foods imaginable (fruits, vegetables, spices, meats, poultry, etc.) and gives history, description, and nutritional background on each one.  I’ve just gone through the beginning portion which explains the differences between some commonly popular nutritional diets (Atkins, Blood Type, Macrobiotic, etc.), but it even has a section on suggested foods for specific ailments and conditions.  I am now even more amped to continue eating healthy, but now I’m extra anxious and guilty whenever I eat whatever is not so healthy…because now I really understand how bad it is for the body..yikes!  Regardless, I’m keeping this one in my pantry!

I tried reading “The Cell” by Stephen King but started to get nightmares.  So my coworker has let me borrow Sandra Brown’s “White Hot”.  I’m reading it and so far I feel like I”m watching a Lifetime Original Movie.

Mitch Albom’s The Five People You Meet In Heaven”…I’m halfway done.  Very easy reading.  It isn’t keeping my attention too well.  However, I’m enjoying it and am very curious to see the movie.  The most significant part of reading this book is it is making me wonder who I would meet in heaven…

I’m currently reading Ken Follett’s The Pillars of the Earth.  Yes, it is 973 pages long.  However, don’t get discouraged.  In just 3 days, I have read 602 pages…that is an AMAZING feat for me because the last time I enjoyed reading a book was in the 6th grade and I was into Judy Blume!  I even tried reading The DaVinci Code a few years ago and didn’t get past the first 30 pages (I think this had something to do with having small kids).

Pillars is a real page turner.  I normally don’t get into movies on eras other than modern day, so I didn’t anticipate getting enthralled with a book on one.  However, I love it so far!  The characters are so entrenched in turmoil, intense situations, and conflict.  Follett also accomplishes the daunting task of painting a vivid picture of the surroundings, climate, and aura of the time.  You actually feel like you are there.  Unfortunately I looked for the Facebook Fan Page for Pillars and stumbled upon some “spoilers” for myself.  I quickly turned away and hit the back button.  heaheah!
